Well, it’s 82 in Tahiti! (but 18 in Ypsi)

Don’t get me wrong, I love seasonally appropriate weather.  We *need* this cold weather to kill the parasites and rejuvenate the land.  A lot of our native plants, animals, and insects rely on the cold weather for important parts of their life cycle.  But….it’s cold outside.  So I discovered that on my phone you can display the weather not only locally, but in any number of other locations as well.  I’ve added Tahiti to the list of places whose weather forecast is on my phone (along with helpful graphics depicting what sunny days they’re having there).  It’s a mini-escape from our grey February days!  For comparison purposes I’ve also added Vladivostok, where it’s currently 11F and clear.  Welcome to winter.

Fortunately we’ve been keeping warm at Harvest Kitchen making some great food (and dancing to some great tunes).  This week’s big discussion has been exploring options for a cooler display case to showcase our awesome food and make it easier for walk-in customers to choose their food.  Next week, we’ll bring in a tape measure and see where such a fine piece of equipment might fit…. (we may be bidding farewell to the “attack door”…and if you don’t know what I mean, you’re lucky!).  Stay tuned!

In the mean time, here’s the plan for this week:

Omnivore

Hearty Harvest Chili with Turkey – A steaming bowl of chili is exactly what you need on a freezing winter day.  Try ours! It’s hearty with meat and veggies and beans and is sure to brighten your day.

Short Ribs over Mashed Roots -  Tender beer-braised short ribs from Mclaughlin Farm served over a bed of sweet and flavorful mashed root veggies (rutabaga, potatoes, and turnips are sure to take a roll). What a treat. 

Cream of Broccoli Soup  – Our creamy soup features delicious broccoli straight from our freezer supply.  Rich and flavorful, this soup is always a crowd-pleaser.

Crispy Winter Slaw –A light and delicious blend of carrots and cabbage in a savory dressing, this slaw provides a refreshingly crispy note in any meal.

Cornbread  –Our delicious, fresh cornbread makes the perfect accompaniment to this week’s chili.  Not to be missed!

Vegetarian
