Winter Omnivore Week 2 (yes, yes, there are still shares!)

Putting together sauce and pasta for the vegetarians

Hello everyone!

It’s been another busy week here at Harvest Kitchen.  I don’t know why I keep expecting life to get less crazy around here, but everything is keeping us on our toes.  One exciting piece of news is that Harvest Kitchen is going to be interviewed on Ann Arbor’s 107.1 radio at 8.30 am on Friday.  Morning commuters, listen up!  We’re planning to share some of our food with Martin Bandyke,  so listen in to hear what he has to say about it.

At the kitchen, things are running smoothly.  I’ve had a lot of fun in the past week meeting with various farmers to get everything we need for our shares.  We’re lucky to have talented folks like Kate, Tomm, Chuck, Louis, and Kris working so hard to bring us amazing food.  Nothing daunts these guys! Not cold weather, animals and plants not growing as predicted, mud, bad parking, nothing! Hooray for our farmers.  Remember you can read about our farmers and their farms on Real Time Farms

For now, we’re already slipping into the regular rhythm of the season, though we still have some shares available (tell your friends).  We’ve got a good menu planned for this week in the kitchen.  I’m also trying to put together info so I can feature our amazing cooks here on the blog, but so far we’ve been too busy cooking to do interviews.  Look for that in the next post, and in the mean time, read about our dear Melanie on the Repasts Present and Future blog!

This week’s Menu will be:

Emmy re-organized the spice cabinet!

Bolognese Sauce with Pasta – Veronica’s famous and hearty Bolognese pairs perfectly with Pastabilities spaghetti.  Sure to be a crowd pleaser, especially when paired with…

Winter Panzanella Salad – Traditionally made with summer-y veggies like tomatoes and basil, our winter panzanella will feature delicious greens, Mill Pond Bakery bread, beets, carrots, and a tangy Italian dressing with all our home-dried herbs.  A winter-y twist on an Italian favorite!

Slow Cooked Barbeque Ribs – On Saturday I was at the Farmer’s Market set up next to Sansonetti Sauces, and Joe is such a salesman it didn’t take long before I decided that you, too, need to experience his Michigan Maple BBQ sauce!

Gingery Butternut Soup – Warm up on a cold winter’s day with a classic HK favorite.  Ginger, apples, and of course, the sweetest butternut squash combine in this creamy soup from Simply in Season.

Snowy Morning Salad – Another crisp lettuce mix from our friends at Sunseed Farm.

Get ready to enjoy!

peace

Mary
